Obituary for Cecil David Moore Sr.

Mr. Cecil David Moore, Sr. (affectionately known as “CD”) was born on January 16, 1934, the fourth child of eight children to Mattie and Bernard Moore, Sr. in Memphis, TN. His Parents and four siblings preceded him in death. (Mattie Moore Hambrick, William Moore, Sr., Doris Moore Cooper, and Frank Moore, Sr.)
Cecil accepted Christ at an early age at St. Mathew Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend H. H. Harper in Memphis, TN. He was educated in the Memphis City School System; He briefly interrupted his education by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps to participate in The Korean War from 1953 until 1955. He also was an amateur boxer under the name of “David Moore”. After military service he returned to Memphis to complete his education at his beloved Douglass High School, where he graduated in 1957. He later moved to St. Louis Missouri and was employed by General Motors Corporation, and retired in 1997 after 30 years of loyal service. Although retired he continued to work and to participate in his passion as a professional bowler.
He departed this life early Monday morning, November 12, 2012, in DePaul Hospital, at the age of seventy-eight. He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, and two daughters, Diane Tollivar (Harold) of Kansas City, Missouri, Cecil David Moore Jr. (Tanya), Valarie Coleman (Jerry), Michael Steven Moore all of Memphis, Tennessee and David Dennis Moore of St. Peters, Missouri, one son preceded him in death, Rodney (Duke) Darnell Moore. He leaves one brother, Bernard Moore Jr. (Sadie) of Carson, California, and two sisters, Dorothy Frazier of St. Louis, Missouri and Margaret Hunter of Memphis, Tennessee, and two sisters-in law Mildred Moore, and Virginia Moore both of Memphis, Tennessee. He also leaves eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends. He was dearly beloved and will be sorely missed.
